Rosa, Rose, Rosalia by Domenico Pellegrino.
Work in wood and luminaria.
Created in honor of the patron saint of Palermo Santa Rosalia, the legend that features the patron saint of Palermo, tells that, during her journey to the hermitage of Santo Stefano Quisquina, the saint went to the rose forest, a place she knew well, as she sometimes retreated to the mountain to lead a hermit's life. It is said that the peony roses, without thorns, bloomed right when Santa Rosalia passed by: since then they bloom in the month of February. The name Rosalia is composed of the Latin words rosa, (rose) and lilium (lily), symbols of royalty and purity respectively.
